Keeping Your Monthly Cycle in a Nutritional Flow for Wellness

Welcome back to my blog for another informative read. Today I am writing about our monthly cycle and how we can influence and manage that time of the month with some holistic lifestyle practices that can make the monthly cycle feel more natural, sacred and deepen the connection with our bodies.

This is for educational purposes and is inspired from my personal experience with my whole body and intuition. This blog is focused on nutritional lifestyle and its impact rather than reproductive health issues. For reproductive health conditions, please seek a licensed medical provider.

To prepare for the next menstrual cycle, you will need to know when the potential starting date so that you can plan for the things you may need or get support tools for a positive experience during your menstrual cycle. To estimate the next cycle date, you will start from the first day of your last menstrual cycle and count up to your 28 or 30 day cycle. The first day of the menstrual cycle will come a week earlier than last month previous cycle. Once your estimated day is determined, you will have an idea of how to know when the body starts to shift to begin a new cycle.

Next, you want to start studying your body by feeling its physical sensations, emotional sensitivities, and mental capacities. Keep a journal to document your experience. Usually, the body experiences the same pre-menstrual signs like: subtle head and body aches, mood swings, memory lapse, fatigue and etc. Some times these signs change. Listen to how your body communicates its needs for nutrition, rest and energy. This part is called "being tuned". You are tuning in to the energies of your body and frequency for cycle change.

Now that you know when your body is shifting to its menstrual cycle, you can now flow with your body and intuitively provide it with the food and nutrition that it needs to run its course without nutritional deficiencies, as well as maintain healthy body glow & care with physical ease. This is the sacred YOU experiencing its self on a deeper level which feels soulful. You will still feel the effects of your menstrual cycle in the body, but with empowering thoughts of understanding for your body and embracing the feminine qualities of the process without negative self view and discouraging emotions.

The positive impact to a healthy menstrual cycle is basic fundamental wellness. Incorporating a ritual of movement or gentle exercises like stretching, poses and dancing helps to move energy around the body for energy flow and helps to relieve body aches and pain. A healthy diet during the menstrual cycle optimizes vital energy for overall wellbeing. Consuming 1-2 meals a day saves the body energy on digesting foods and eases gas and bloating which is one of the first signs to know that you are starting the cycle.

Eat a diet of fruit that resembles the female divine with lots of berries, walnuts, Jamaican avocados. Add mixed green sprouts to salad or wraps, try different types of vegetable soups and stews with fish, turkey or bison, use extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil when sautéing, drink smoothies with naturally occurring fibers, also try kombucha drinks and herbal teas in place of coffee. Eat light meals. Your menstrual cycle is also a spiritual cycle.

This diet regimen will nourish the body's basic requirement for macronutrients (healthy protein, fat, carbs) and micro and phytonutrients (minerals, vitamins and antioxidants).

A list of suggested supplements can be useful during menstrual cycle needs and wellness below:

  • Food-based or cultured vitamin/mineral supplements ( specifically B-12, B-complex, copper, iron,C)
