Nurturing Your Monthly Cycle with Nutritional Harmony for Well-Being

Welcome back to my blog for another insightful read. Today, I’ll be exploring our monthly cycle and how we can positively influence and manage this time of the month through holistic lifestyle practices that help us feel more in tune with our bodies, viewing the cycle as a natural and sacred experience.

This post is intended for educational purposes and draws inspiration from my personal experiences with my body and intuition. Here, we’ll focus on the role of nutrition in our lifestyle and its effects, rather than specific reproductive health concerns. For any reproductive health issues, please consult a licensed medical professional.

To prepare for your upcoming menstrual cycle, it’s important to know the estimated start date so you can gather any necessary supplies or support tools that will contribute to a positive experience. You can estimate your next cycle by starting from the first day of your last menstrual cycle and counting forward to your typical 28 or 30-day cycle. Typically, the first day of your next cycle will arrive about a week earlier than in the previous month. By determining this date, you'll gain insight into when your body begins to prepare for the new cycle.

Next, take a moment to observe your body by paying attention to any physical sensations, along with emotional and mental responses. Keeping a journal to document your experiences can be incredibly helpful. Often, our bodies exhibit similar pre-menstrual signs, such as subtle aches, mood fluctuations, memory lapses, and fatigue. It’s worth noting that you might not experience the same signs every month. Tune in to how your body communicates its nutritional needs, rest, and energy requirements—this process is known as "being tuned." By engaging with your body’s energy and frequency, you’re aligning with its cyclical nature.

Now that you are aware of when your body shifts into its menstrual cycle, you can flow in harmony with it, intuitively providing the nourishment needed to support your journey without facing nutritional deficiencies. This approach allows you to maintain a healthy glow and physical ease. This is the sacred YOU experiencing itself on a deeper level, fostering a soulful connection. While you may still feel the physical effects of your menstrual cycle, embracing empowering thoughts of understanding will enhance your experience, allowing you to accept the feminine qualities of this process without harboring negative self-perceptions or discouraging emotions.

A healthy menstrual cycle is fundamentally tied to overall wellness. Introducing a practice of gentle movement, such as stretching, yoga poses, or dancing, can effectively circulate energy throughout the body, relieving discomfort and tension. Additionally, maintaining a nourishing diet during your cycle optimizes your vital energy for overall well-being. Eating 1-2 meals a day can conserve your body’s energy for digestion, while also minimizing gas and bloating—common signs indicating the onset of your cycle.

Nourish yourself with a diet abundant in fruits that reflect the essence of the divine feminine—think vibrant berries, rich walnuts, and creamy Jamaican avocados. Enhance your salads or wraps with a variety of mixed green sprouts, and explore an array of vegetable soups and stews featuring fish, turkey, or bison. When sautéing, opt for extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. Incorporate smoothies laden with naturally occurring fibers into your routine, and consider swapping coffee for refreshing kombucha drinks and soothing herbal teas. Keep your meals light, as your menstrual cycle is also a profound spiritual journey.

This dietary plan will satisfy the body's essential needs for macronutrients (healthy proteins, fats, and carbohydrates) as well as micro and phytonutrients (minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants).

Below is a list of recommended supplements that may be beneficial during the menstrual cycle for overall well-being:

- Food-based or cultured vitamin/mineral supplements (specifically B-12, B-complex, copper, iron, and vitamin C)

- Magnesium complex - aids in mental and physical relaxation, alleviates head and body aches, and alleviates cramps

- Activated Charcoal - addresses gas and bloating

- Evening Primrose oil - provides hormonal support and promotes skin health

- Greens Food powder - a blend of sea and land greens mixed with fruits and herbal adaptogens for enhanced energy and stress support.
